The ambitious animated and fantasy film adapted from the cult comic Légendes de la garde – with Idris Elba in warrior mouse – will not be made. Not at the Fox Disney version, anyway.
Mickey unplugged Mouse Guard . The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Disney has canceled this week’s production of Mouse Guard , two weeks from the beginning of the shoot. It was an animated film adapted from David Petersen’s comic ( Legends of the Guard in VF), telling the exploits of warrior mice in the undergrowth of a medieval-fantasy world. Mouse Guard was to be directed by Wes Ball , who signed The Labyrinth trilogy , with Idris Elba , Andy Serkis and Thomas Brodie-Sangster . All produced by Matt Reeves(The last two ) within the 20th Century Fox for a budget estimated at 170 million dollars, budget justified by the use of digital effects to animate the mouse.The Planet of the Apes , the future reboot of Batman

In short, a big and ambitious project. But who no longer fits in the strategy of Disney, whose purchase of the Fox was finalized for good March 20 last. The studio-master has already closed the Fox 2000 branch , and would not want too expensive project and too adult. However, Alan Horn, Disney’s big boss, said he wanted to use Fox for his films out of the Disney specifications, as he explained recently . Unless the studio does not want a project that works on the flowerbeds of his remakes in CGI / live action animated classics (like The Lion King and Aladdin ). Stay Mickey rather than risk being Mouse Guard. That said, the film may not be that dead: the project could be bought by another studio.
